PUPPY

Level 1 (Runs 7 Weeks)

The focus of this class is to teach owners how to train their puppy using motivational training methods that are fun for both owner and dog. Includes basic commands as well as discussions on understanding dog behaviour, dealing with common problems, gaining your dog's respect and being a responsible dog owner. A great way to socialize your puppy!

Level 2 (Runs 7 Weeks)

Puppies 6 months to 1 year.

Prerequisite: Puppy Obedience Level 1 or equivalent.

Teach your puppy through play! Fun, games and toys are used to motivate your dog to learn and improve their focus and attention. Includes an introduction to "modified" agility equipment to instil confidence in your puppy and build a bond between owner and dog. Some basic handling techniques are also introduced.

AGILITY

Introduction to Agility (Runs 6 Weeks)

Dogs at Least 1 year old.

Prerequisite: Basic Obedience Commands.

Welcome to the sport of agility! You and your dog will learn how to safely navigate each piece of agility equipment. You will also learn the importance of good body language and improve the communication between you and your dog. At the end of this class you will have a good understanding of agility and what's involved.

Level 1 (Runs 6 Weeks)

Dogs at least 1 year old.

Prerequisite: Puppy 2 or Introduction to Agility.

In this class you and your dog will continue training, aiming for a good solid performance on each piece of equipment. You will begin executing simple sequences using various pieces of equipment. You will also be introduced to contact methods and weave poles.

Level 2 (Runs 6 Weeks)

Prerequisite: Level 1 Agility (Contacts & Weave Poles would be an asset).

You will begin laying the foundation for excellent handling skills and body language. Directional signals and solid start line performance are included in this class. The games and levels of agility competition will be explained with the opportunity to try some small courses.

Level 3 (Runs 6 Weeks)

Prerequisite: Control of dog off leash, jumps and tunnels.

Students learn the different manoeuvres necessary to successfully deal with any handling challenges present in an agility course. You will also learn to change your dog’s focus from the obstacles to you and back again.

Level 4 (Runs 6 Weeks)

Prerequisite: Level 3 Agility.

This class is an opportunity to put into practice the handling skills learned in Level 3. Students will learn to successfully “read” an agility course and choose the handling options that best suit them and their dog.

Recreational Agility

Prerequisite: Level 1 Agility.

Agility Just for Fun!! This class gives you the opportunity to run a variety of courses with your dog just for the fun of it. There is always an instructor present to assist you and ensure the safety of your dog.

Distance

Prerequisite: Control of dog off leash.

This class teaches the student to work their dog from a distance using directional control and other basic commands. Exercises will be set up to practice each skill independently followed by sequences that incorporate a variety of distance skills.

Contacts & Weaves

Getting a dog to hit the “yellow” on a contact obstacle can be a source of much frustration!! Students will learn a method to ensure their dog hits the contact zone safely and consistently. This class also focuses on having independent weave pole performance with reliable entries from any angle or distance.

Focus & Control

Stressful situations can turn some dogs into uncontrollable masses of barking fur!! This class is designed to teach dogs with “issues” to relax and focus. The result is a more confident dog that is reliable on or off leash.

Greeting Rituals:

A dog that knocks your guests over at the door can be an embarrassment or cause an injury. A dog that jumps up is seeking attention. An effective way of stopping the behaviour is to turn your back, don't say anything and don't make eye contact. The dog will soon put his paws on the ground. Reinforce that by turning around to face him again. Most enthusiastic dogs will very likely jump up again. Be calm, say nothing and turn away again, turning back only when appropriate until he chooses not to jump up. When he does, reward that good behaviour with a high value treat.

Now it is time to increase the challenge - add your own joyful greeting. Speak with great enthusiasm until you encourage the dog to jump on you again. When the dog jumps up in response to your energetic greeting, just continue to turn away. Repeat this until the dog chooses to greet you with all four paws on the floor. Have others help you by rehearsing their own greeting with the dog. If the dog gets no attention from guests for jumping up and tons of reinforcement for a more appropriate greeting ritual, the jumping up will soon be a thing of the past.
