AB NWT Regionals - Coming to the 'Hat'

The Flashing Canines will be hosting the 2012 AB/NWT Regional agility competition June 1, 2 and 3 right here in Medicine Hat. The venue for the games is the Moose Ball Complex. It promises to be three days of fast, furious and fun competition as dog and handler teams vie for the right to compete at the Canadian Nationals taking place August 1 - 5 in Nanaimo, BC.

Events such as this do not happen without the support and contributions of generous sponsors and donors. If you would like to contribute, please visit the 2012 Regionals web site at www.abnwtregionals2012.com and click on Sponsor. Or maybe you would like to help out and get right in the middle of the action. Volunteers are also vital to the success of the event.

The public is encouraged to attend, take in some of the events, do a little shopping at some of the vendors that will be on site and enjoy some great agility action.

We are also extremely pleased that Dr Veronica Duvall will be returning May 7, 2011 to give a second seminar. This one will deal with Common Injuries in Performance Dogs.

FLASHING CANINES COMPETE AT NATIONALS

The 2010 AAC National Agility competition was held at the world famous Spruce Meadows in Calgary on August 6 - 8.  And the Flashing Canines are so proud of their three teams who competed in the event!!

It was Michelle Larson and Ava's first experience at the Nationals.  After qualifying at the Regionals, they worked very hard to prepare for the big event.  As a result, they had 3 clear runs in Jumper and Standard classes earning 3 placement ribbons. They also ran clean on both Steeplechase runs (waiting for some final result to verify if that gives Ava her Steeplechase title).

"Nationals was such an amazing experience for me with Ava" says Michelle " ...I look forward to the challenge and I hope to compete at the Nationals again with her some day!"

Barb Glasgo and Giro, who also competed last year, earned a 10 place ribbon in the Gambler class and had a qualifying run in Steeplechase.  Barb was so impressed by Giro's new found speed.

"My gal Giro ran  fast in every event" says Barb  "I'm so proud of my gopher hunting farm dog."  And so she should be!

Sue Wanner and Jetta  were competing in a very large group of 35 teams.  They  ran clear and well under time in every run....and placed 4th in every class on Sunday.  For their stellar performance over the two day event, they finished up on the podium in 3rd PLACE!!.   What an accomplishment!!

We also want to acknowledge two other members.  Gail Thompson and Olivia Lucas dedicated their entire weekend as volunteers at the event.  Volunteers are critical to the success of these types of events. Their commitment and hard work over those three long days was very much appreciated.

Congratulations to all of you.  The competition level was top-notch and you all did yourselves and the Flashing Canines proud.

Is This Any Way to Treat Your Best Friend?:

It may seem like your dog enjoys it, but riding in the back of a truck could cost your dog its life.

If you hit a bump, swerve unexpectedly or brake suddenly your best friend could easily be thrown or fall out of your truck. If not injured or killed by the fall, your dog may be hit by another vehicle. Cars swerving to miss your dog may even cause other accidents for which you could be liable.

Simply tying your dog in the truck bed is not a solution. Ropes and leashes become nooses should the dog be jolted from the truck. Also, wind whipping debris into a dog's eyes can cause permanent damage.

Use a protective kennel secured to the centre of the truck bed, let your best friend ride safely in the cab with you or leave your dog at home.

Please feel free to contact us for more info or advice on dog safety in vehicles.
